Carnival Season is a Great Reason to Visit St. Thomas in April

St. Thomas’s Carnival celebration takes place throughout the month of April, making this a great time for a Bolongo Bay Beach Resort spring getaway. The resort is currently offering 20% off room rates during Carnival season, and you can get an additional $300 in spending credits if you book through

From costumes to calypso music, street fairs to soca, the 65th annual St. Thomas Carnival promises to be a great party for locals and visitors alike. The fun kicks off on April 1 when local calypso bands vie for the chance to compete for top honors on the island, and a Carnival prince, princess, and queen will be chosen in the weeks before the Carnival Village officially opens on April 21 at Fort Christian.

The next day is the big calypso competition finals, and music and entertainment continue through Thursday, April 27, when the island’s version of j’ouvert, called Roas-a-Time, begins with a post-midnight warmup and a 4 a.m. road march. Sleep it off and enjoy horse racing at 2 p.m. the next day.

With Carnival now in full swing, you can check out the annual Children’s costume parade on Friday before plunging into the colorful adult parade on Saturday, April 29, beginning at 10 a.m. and highlighted — but by no means concluded — with fireworks at 9 p.m. Take your “last lap” until 3 a.m. before returning to Bolongo to recharge on the beach, in true island style.

Note: When booking a room via the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort website, use the booking code “summersplash” to get the discount rate. If you use the Visit USVI site to book, use the code CP17 to get the $300 in credits toward on-island activities (you’ll get the discount room rate, too).
