Marriage License and Application Instructions

It is very easy to be married in the US Virgin Islands.  These are the steps necessary to fulfill
your obligations in obtaining your marriage license. Blank forms required can be downloaded
at the bottom of this page. All couples must apply for a Marriage License from the Superior Court in St. Thomas.

There are no blood tests, however if either party has been previously married, a certified copy of the divorce decree or annulment, or death certificate, stamped with a seal and generated by the court office in which the divorce took place, must be filed with the application. A waiting period of eight days can be waived if the application is received well in advance. We recommend submitting the application one month prior to ceremony date.

The application should be typewritten or printed very neatly, and accompanied by a money order for $100.00 made out to The Clerk of the Superior Court. Make copies of the applications and bring them with you. In addition, send them by traceable Federal Express to the following address:  The application must be sent to the court a minimum of 8 working days prior to the Wedding date. We recommend submitting the application one month prior to ceremony date. You should confirm that the court is open on the day you are considering picking up the license. BE SURE TO COMPLETE ALL INFORMATION REQUESTED ON THIS FORM. DO NOT ABBREVIATE. INCOMPLETE FORMS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

Prior to the Wedding, you both must pick up the marriage license at the Superior Court office in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. You will BOTH need Picture I.D.

The court hours are 8:00 am until 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, closed on Federal and local Holidays.  Saturday pick-up is possible at 10:00 am by special request, and some Holidays and

Sundays at an additional fee of $150.00.
