The US Virgin Islands are home to some of the most beautiful views in the Caribbean, maybe even in the world! There are many ways to enjoy these beautiful islands, usually by land or sea. Everyone loves the island tours, the sunset sails into the harbor, and the snorkeling trips to nearby Turtle Cove. If you are feeling a little adventurous, you can also experience St. Thomas from a bird’s eye view, whether by zip-lining or parasailing. These are all terrific ways to experience the paradise around you, but maybe you want to do something a little more unique, a little more daring; maybe a bird’s eye view just isn’t enough…
Why not experience the breathtaking panoramas available at 10,000 feet?! Skydive VI, a new activity rapidly growing in popularity, is available on both St. Thomas and St. Croix. From my own experience, I can assure you that they aren’t kidding when they say “This tandem skydive adventure allows you to experience the thrill of a lifetime!” I’ve always wanted to try skydiving, so when Skydive VI starting operating out of St. Thomas in November 2013, I knew I had to go! As a lifelong resident of St. Thomas, I’ve always felt very familiar with the sights and scenery of my home, as well as the surrounding islands. Well, let me tell you, I was blown away (literally and figuratively..) by the incredible sights of St. Thomas, St. John, Water Island, Hassel, Buck, Tortola, etc. all laid out below me. From the 20 minute plane ride with views of all the British and US Virgin Islands (even a tiny outline of St. Croix!), to the fun landing at the Clinton Phipps racetrack, it was truly incredible.
My cousin and I met the Skydive instructors at the Jet Center of the STT airport, where we were given a safety briefing and a rundown of what to expect. The staff was professional, courteous, and fun! From there we hopped into the plane and began ascending, while the instructors took photos and videos for us. Before I knew it, the door was open, and it was time to jump! Freefalling at 120 mph was the most unbelievable feeling; it was so exhilarating! Once the parachute opened, my instructor skillfully navigated us through exciting spins and turns, all while taking in the amazing views. After landing safely on the ground, I couldn’t stop smiling and looking back up at the sky in disbelief. Once the momentary shock wore off, I decided that I would absolutely love to skydive again someday!
If you’re looking for something a little out of the box for your vacation to the Virgin Islands, or for your day off, I’d highly recommend Skydive VI!
