Hiking in the USVI offers an opportunity to get up close with nature.

St. John, one of the US Virgin Islands, is a magical place to visit. Two-thirds of the island is national park, which ensures that the natural beauty is preserved and st-john-national-parkkept in pristine condition. Bolongo Bay offers a full-day sail on their Catamaran, Heavenly Days, to Honeymoon Beach, St. John, which is a great way to see the north coast of the island and spend time on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. If you don’t have time to go sailing with them, or you loved it so much that you want to visit on your own, one of the best ways to explore St. John is by hiking!

St. John will delight both the serious hiker and the casual stroller. The Virgin Islands National Park maintains several exciting trails including the famous Reef Bay Trail and several historic mills and plantation ruins. There are also gut walks, scrambles, and short trails to interesting and out of the way places. In total, virgin-islands-national-parkthere are 22 unique trails within the National Park, on both the South and North sides of the island, ensuring that there is something to appeal to everyone! From enjoyable 30 minute strolls through shady trees, to an invigorating full day hike through Danish plantation ruins, even mysterious carvings and petroglyphs – whichever trail you choose, you are bound to be taken away by the beauty of the Virgin Islands National Park!

If you have some time to spend, check out the Reef Bay Trail or the Annaberg plantation ruins. Both of these spots are great for photos, site seeing, and you’ll be sure to enjoy everything the surrounding areas have to offer. If you would prefer a shorter hike annaberg-ruins-kathy-yatesand still get in some beach time, there are several trails that are easily accessible when you disembark the ferry in Cruz Bay. The Lind Bay trail will take you right to Solomon or Honeymoon beach in about 30 minutes, or you can continue on towards Caneel Bay for another 30 or so minutes to complete the hike.
